Waiting

I have been trying to decide what to post today because the reality is that today has been and will continue to be a lot of..... waiting. But let's see if I can give everyone a window to look inside Melissa's room in ICU without embarrassing her too much 🙂.
If you were in her room sitting on the couch with me, you would see ten different pumps with bags of medicine flowing through lines to Melissa. There is fluid, medicine to control blood pressure, medicine to help her be comfortable, medicine to help the heart. Some of the waiting is just trying to get the right mix of medicine to keep blood pressure and heart function in normal ranges.
On the other side of the room is the main reason for all of the waiting....the ventilator. Melissa is intubated so the "vent" can help her breathe. The goal is to get her breathing on her own as soon as possible. Respiratory therapists are in frequently to test her breathing and work with the cardiovascular surgery team on a plan for extubating.
Just outside the door is the ICU nurse responsible for Melissa's care. The nursing staff is top notch and is doing a wonderful job caring for Melissa.
The door has also seen numerous teams of doctors, med students, and residents come through. These teams also are doing an amazing job guiding the care for Melissa.
It is hard to wait....but there will be a day soon when things will start moving quickly. Rest and letting her body start the healing process is so important right now.
Thank you again for praying and being a great support system for Melissa and our family.
Jeff, thank you for the updates. Praying for you Mel, Jeff, Zach and the rest of the family!! You’re a strong, tough girl!
