Surgery Postponed

One benefit to being at a teaching hospital is that teams of doctors collaborate, discuss, and debate (in a good way). They gather as much information as possible to make the best decision for the patient.
Melissa saw the cardio thoracic surgery team this morning. After examining her further and taking into account all the scans done over the past few days, they decided the best course of action is to not do surgery yet. They will get an ultrasound of her chest which will give them another piece of data and a view of the infection. As one of the doctors told us, her heart function and vitals are great. Doing surgery risks making her overall condition worse.
In the meantime, Melissa now has "Penelope" the PICC line which is and will be used for administering antibiotics as well as blood draws. She is glad to not have to be poked as much.
We are grateful for such excellent care and for the prayers and kindness of family and friends.
